I don't collect books like fabric. Once I read a book (of fiction) I tend to pass it on to someone or trade it in for another one. I recently went through all my quilts books and kept a selection that I would use more efficiently and donated the rest.

I have the other Civil War Book-Love Letter Quilt, and will be hosting a civil war club at my LQS using patterns and history from that book. It should be a fun club!Quilting Piratehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06965770105669216160noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5802158747151535187.post-40800026079876291062007-08-28T00:03:00.000-05:002007-08-28T00:03:00.000-05:00I just re-did my office/den and I have shelving sp...I just re-did my office/den and I have shelving space galore. I also went through and purged books -- to the tune of approximately 10-15 boxes full. I read. A lot. Not all of the books are ones I needed to keep. I still have tons. And two more massive bookshelves in other rooms. We stumble on books, trip on them, but always read them!

Sorry I can't be more helpful here!atethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13563533672161608587noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5802158747151535187.post-27936689780957738312007-08-25T21:38:00.000-05:002007-08-25T21:38:00.000-05:00I, too, have LOTS of books. I will be organizing them by subject, similar to what you listed. It will be a loooong process but it will be worth it. Then I will be labeling the shelves in an attempt to keep them organized.
We have quite a few bookcases but could always use more because I am always 'gathering' more books. We store books in just about every room (including the children's rooms... we like for them to have their own shelves for some of their books, too)
Most of our bookshelves I found at thrift stores and garage sales. I have found that to be very helpful. Setting aside a little money here and there to purchase a very used book shelf has really come in handy.
I, also, have a plastic, Rubbermaid-type, 'bookshelf' with doors that we purchased from Lowe's. It sits in the garage and will store our school records and other 'soon-to-be-appointed' books and such.
I have, also, used milk crates to store books. ;o)
phew! Happy book organizing! ;o)

Also, thank you for your prayers. We appreciate that SO much.
I, also, answered your question at the post you left your comment. ;o)

Have a blessed Lord's Day tomorrow.

~ ChristinaHsKubeshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12573406924326142245noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5802158747151535187.post-49616386972124307312007-08-25T11:54:00.000-05:002007-08-25T11:54:00.000-05:00I know books take up a lotsof space, but the enjoy...I know books take up a lotsof space, but the enjoyment they provide is well worth it, IMHO. Five of those in the living room were the cheap kind, but we screwed them to the wall and dressed them up with trim, so they look like they're much nicer than they really are. Of course, that probably doesn't help you a lot if you are prohibited from buying shelve. What about thrifting? Oh, about looking for those old sewing books, there are a couple Yahoo groups, like Sewitsforsale, where people list things like that. I think you can post if you're looking for something specific. I'd post to those sites and on any other sewing/quilting board I could find! Or maybe you can go thrifting for shelves and be lucky enough to find the books! Doubtful, but you never know . . . .Kimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05365964667029948020noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5802158747151535187.post-66819539834332583112007-08-24T18:28:00.000-05:002007-08-24T18:28:00.000-05:00My books are all stored in Ikea bookshelves, not n...My books are all stored in Ikea bookshelves, not neatly or organized.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12891803528855597132noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5802158747151535187.post-27474023530729446182007-08-24T12:59:00.000-05:002007-08-24T12:59:00.000-05:00I love books! The majority of our 'library' is on a bookshelf purchased for that purpose, but there are books throughout the house, in a cupboard, on tables. You don't have to move far to find something to read around this place. Someday we hope to have a room dedicated as a library - the walls lined with book . . . someday . . .Libbyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17872055894285312153noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5802158747151535187.post-42111676262086053382007-08-23T14:59:00.000-05:002007-08-23T14:59:00.000-05:00Sorry Bren. I try to have them organized (recipe book section/ children's books/ biographies etc) but they tend to get jumbled around as we look at them. I also have a book shelf in my livingroom. I've designated a few shelves on that for school books (since we do most of our schoolwork in that room) and a few other special books. Each child also has a book shelf in his/her room for favorite books. I donated several books to the library when we moved because our 'library' was going to be smaller. You tend to collect a lot of books when you homeschool.Knit-Withttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13447432036726317278noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5802158747151535187.post-63197152061851370032007-08-23T13:56:00.000-05:002007-08-23T13:56:00.000-05:00We have 4 large book case and 2 small ones. I was using one of the large ones for my fiction, but it was getting very full, so I cleaned it out. My DH saw how much room I now had and filled it up with his books (he already has the other 3 bookshelves full).
