She Spends Saturday Sewing Sea Shells

I am working on the brown border of the Pink & Brown quilt and loving it! It is such a cool design. Very classy.Here is a peek at the back. It will be a nice finished edge.I only have 3 sides to go and then on to the binding. Sorry if you are all getting tired of looking at this quilt. I am just so excited about the progress I am making. I plan to spend the rest of today working toward getting a second side done.

Yesterday, my grand children came for an overnight. It was such a blessing to have them two weeks in a row. TJ had his first "piano lesson". He learned middle C and is learning to play "Mary Had a Little Lamb".Emerson has forgotten how to walk and RUNS everywhere, which is why I have no pictures of her that are not a blur! She also says "poo" when it is appropriate! She wrinkles her nose and says "icky" while you are fixing her problem. I think she will potty train early. So cute, that little one. TJ pulled a toe nail and was quite freaked out, yelling, "Hurry, Grandma, it's almost gonna bleed!" Grandma hurried and a bandaide took care of everything!He wore his pj's backwards last night, on purpose. Don't ask why, cause when I did, he had no answer except that he wanted to. My type A- personality let him do it and I was not too disturbed! LOL

Tomorrow I am having dinner for 15. It is Kyle's 24th birthday and Sherry is in town with 3 of her kids and 2 of her grandkids and will bring along her "special" friend. It has been a year and a half since Scott passed away. I am so glad she is finding happiness again. I will try to get lots of pictures.

Homespun Flowers

I have everything all neat and tidy in my sewing room again. All the fabric is sorted, folded and put away. I actually had twice that much, but had put some away already. I should have a finished quilt top to show you by Monday.

In the meantime, after spending hours at a sewing machine (for the past ?? days), I decided to take a break from hand quilting in the evening. I am at a place on the pink and brown that is a great stop/start point. Plus, I will be a hand quilting fool once the baskets get into the hoop next week...it needs to be done by Christmas! So, I pulled this top back out.......and spent the evening watching "Fly Me To The Moon" with the family, while doing some hand applique on the border.I put my case of threads right next to me as there are so many colors going into this border.
So far, only 3 flowers done. All the flowers will be plaid with gold centers and there will be many leaves going around that vine. I love this quilt and plan to hang it in my entryway when it is done. It is quite large....83x83. It tells the story of the Underground Railroad. If you look closely at the quilt, you will see a basket block. Yep, that is where I got the pattern for the "Basket Case". I have actually used many patterns from this book over and over again. It is an Eleanor Burns book called "Underground Railroad Sampler".

Speaking of inspiration, I will be holding a workshop at my church tomorrow afternoon on the Home Management Binder/Box. Pray for me....I am not a "get-up-in-front-of-people" kind of girl.

No post for Feminine Friday this week, as Valencia is having her 1 year blog anniversary. It has been a full week of wonderful posts...lots of prizes she is giving away too. You can click here to join the party and wish Valencia a happy Anniversary!!

Though I am wearing one of my favorite skirts today...soft, flowing rayon...I will wait to show you another day. Like I said, I do not wear dresses only, and will wear jeans around the house. I feel better in a skirt and top or a dress, but there are days I throw on a pair of jeans and a shirt. I came downstairs on one of those days last week and Sweetheart said, "It is good to see you out of uniform once in a while!"

Have a blessed weekend. I will be battling baskets, though I am seeing a knock out coming up soon!

She's Mobile!!!

And she is proud of it!!! One minute she is sitting there playing nicely, and the next minute she is GONE!!!!

Where did she go? She went to the next room to look outside.Emerson has been rolling for a while now, but she only traveled short distances. Now she is army crawling like a pro. She loves her new found freedom!I had a wonderful afternoon/evening with the grandkids yesterday. Today I am cleaning and working on laundry. I want to spend a good chunk of tomorrow on more of these..... I have been enjoying some videos this week done by Candy and DeNiece. They are doing a series called "A Day In My Kitchen" and each day they post a video of food preps, recipes, and different tasks that are done in their kitchens. I would love to join in, but for 2 reasons I won't...

#1 I have no high quality video equipment, and

#2 a week in my kitchen would bored you to death.

I did decide to do a post of pictures titled "A Day In My Kitchen"...it will be a day and not a week long series. Check back tomorrow when I hope to have it posted. In the mean time, pop over to Candy and DeNiece and watch their series....both wonderfully done!

GARDENING

My garden is no where near ready to go in, but it is fun to read about the gardens in the south and west that are sprouting wonderful veggies and flowers for fruit! Patty at Morning Ramble has been working hard at her homestead. Her garden is gorgeous!! I have also enjoyed watching her "kids" play and grow!

One of my favorite subjects and one of my favorite posts for the week. DeNiece posted this video of her home and homemaking. I LOVED IT. I watched it twice...the second time with Charlotte. What a woman!! This lady oozes love of family! Grab a cup of coffee and spend 17 minutes being thoroughly inspired!!

FRUGAL LIVING

No, this has never been a real interest for me. I am one who never looks at prices, shops without coupons or a circular, never knew what a "loss leader" was, and sometimes grocery shopped several times a week without a list! YIKES! Well things have changed in our world and I have had to study up on making new habits. I did get my grocery bill cut in half last year, but even that is not enough.The Proverb's Wife has a blog FILLED with great hints and details on saving money while filling your pantry to overflowing.
