Well the Masterpiece is coming along. All the pieces are drawn out onto freezer paper and the background is purchased and washed, ready to cut and primed for a needle. I found I may not have all the colors of applique thread this quilt will require. Tomorrow I will pick just what fabrics will go into this block. While I was purchasing the white background fabrics, I picked up a few fat quarters that I thought would be perfect. I have a large assortment of civil war era reproductions from my Underground Railroad Sampler (I'll show that when the border is done), but you can never have too many fabrics. This first block has 96 pieces in it, not counting the bias stems. I am starting with one of the easier ones. Not too many layered pieces like other blocks I plan to add. Here are the fat quarters I purchased against the white background fabric. I also bought 2 different purple 1/2 yd. cuts but they are not in the photos. You will see them in the finished block as they will appear in the grapes and plums.

Happy to have enabled you with the Civil War Diary Quilt book - it's a beautiful book.
I love the fabrics you have chosen - those are definitely my kind of colours and I love the Civil War era too.
