A Fool For Spools

Catchy title, huh? Yeah, I think it's pretty cheesy too! What can I say, I'm from the midwest ;0) Since I am soooooo busy on the Masterpiece block, (which by the way, I am loving every minute of), I really have nothing to show you that I have accomplished. After reading about Linda's recent find of wooden spools, I thought I would share mine. I can't give a date on these, though now I am curious and will probably spend some time researching them. If anyone out there has any idea, please let me know. I can't even tell you where I got them as I have had them forever.

I also enjoy quilt blocks using the spools theme. This little wall hanging was made by a lady in my guild. Her name is Lillian and she moved to Iowa. Never have I known such a sweeter soul.

This next block is from the friendship quilt hanging on the wall in my sewing room. I've shown you the quilt, but here is a close up of the block. Carrie, the maker of the block, used a different fabric in the middle of the spool to make it look like thread. I love this block.
Ok, so my photography skills are not exactly perfected. If you squint your eyes it might come into focus. *g*

In going with the antique theme, I also have this needle book from England. It is in good condition on the outside, but the inside has been well loved and most of the needles are gone. I especially like the little remarks under each set of specific needles telling what they are for and describing them.

And lastly I will share my vintage fabrics. I really like the pink one, but the blue, not so much. The pink one has a feedsack quality to it. I assume these are from the 40's. They got a little gawdy during that period, bringing in larger scale prints than what was previously popular in the 30's.
