New Quilters! I just love them. I actually end up learning from them. They have such a joy. I guess that is with most anything you find that changes your life. Maybe that explains the verse where David is asking God to "restore to me the joy of your salvation". Sometimes you loose your joy after a while. One of the ways to restore it is to get around someone who still has it. The newest quilter in my life is my daughter Charlotte, and let me tell you she has the joy! She has taken 9 12" blocks from my stash of orphan blocks (most are from raffle block drawings from my guild) and has hand sewn 3 rows together. This morning she was So anxious to lay them out just the way she wanted to put them together. I sat and watched her put each row in a different place until she had them just how she wanted them (in true quilter form). She actually got lost in the process and everything but those 9 blocks faded from her consciousness.
And after what seemed forever, she finally had it "just right". Her seams, by the way, are beautiful. If you look, you can really see what block she started with and what block she did last. That is what it is all about though, right? We learn by doing. She asked if we could stuff it when she was done. I explained batting and the sandwich process and watched the twinkle in her eyes grow bigger. She will tie it and I will put the binding on the front with the machine and let her hand stitch the binding to the back. Then baby Charity (her favorite dolly) will have her own quilt. She told me several times over the last few weeks, "I am so glad I have a mommy who sews". Remember, she is adopted, so this really meant something. So.....here's to Charlotte, the newest quilter I know. I guess I may need to make room in my sewing room for another desk!

What fun it is to watch the process in someone else. Have fun!
Oh what a sweet story!
Now that's precious what she said about having a mommy that sews. I bet it made your heart leap with joy. She's done a wonderful job with the blocks. You got that first block finished yet, we want to see, really we dooooooo....lol....
What a sweet story! What a lovely little girl, & she is lucky to have a mother like you!
She is a very pretty girl, & she must be just as 'pretty' inside!
Welcome to the new quilter. Looks like she had a great time.
How cute she is, there is nothing like having the opportunity to do things with your children and what a bonus if it is quilting.
Oh I love it! How sweet! I adore that she is so focused on her block placement, and you know what, she did a wonderful job too! I don't think I could have arranged them in any way more pleasing to the eye than what she chose. I think we have the beginnings of a masterpiece here! :)
Ps. There is hope yet for my daughters! Lol*
Please forward a message to Charlotte. I love her blocks and the layout she chose. I hope we get to see more photos of her quilt in progress and especially a photo of her with the finished project!!
Great job, Charlotte - your quilt is beautiful *s*
I love quilting with my daughters. Great summer project.
How wonderful to have your daughter share in your love of quilting.
She looks so sweet laying out her blocks and planning how they will look their best.
I will look forward to seeing a picture of Charlotte proudly holding up her finished quilt :)
