My Toothless Wonder

Finally!!! The kid will be 8 years old in July and he has finally lost his first ever baby tooth. That same little tooth broke through on the day he became my son...it is bittersweet! To say that Zach was thrilled is an understatement! The one next to it is loose, so he will be working on that one diligently!
We had other thrills that day also. The mailman brought goodies....My friend Cheryl, (Copperswife), sent me a package containing all kinds of fun! I had entered a drawing for a hat she created...a choice between purple and brown. I chose brown...I did not win. The winner chose purple and so Cheryl said whoever posted first on the next post would win the brown hat. I posted second. I rarely ever win anything. Ace had posted first and won the brown hat. She e-mailed me and graciously let me have her win! (Thank you, Ace!) Soooo, after that long explanation, Cheryl sent me my beautiful brown hat! The toothless wonder modeled it for you all! Also included in the package was her own copy (which I will cherish) of Created To Be His Help Meet, a book I have wanted to read for a long time, and a GORGEOUS packet of 12 fat quarters. The fat quarters are from the Robert Kaufman Clothesline Club (I LOVE this line) and are called Mama's Feedsacks by Darlene Zimmerman.Look at that bright Sunflower yellow. It would be great for the centers of flowers. I instantly saw Grandma's Flower Garden.Won't they look wonderful as hexagon flowers??? Libby and RoseMarie have been teasing me with all their hexagons and I have always wanted to make one. I will use the English paper piecing method (it is done by hand) and it will make a great summer project. Perfect for sitting outside on the deck while the kids play in the yard. Now I need to order my paper hexagons and make a trip to Belvidere for more feedsack looking fabrics. (Speaking of fabrics and Belvidere, Coleen has finally posted a pictures of all her wonderful fabrics she bought on our trip to All My Stitches)
I also received my challenge panel from Milah. She sent out 4 of these panels and has challenged us to create a quilt by Easter. She will be doing one too. The panels are all so adorable.
We do not need to use all 10 panels, and Milah gave some great advice...keep it simple. It will make a nice quilt for Grandma's house. Winona is also taking part in the challenge. It will be fun to see what everyone does.
Around the house, we are all keeping busy. Kyle is working everyday and on the phone most evenings...that is a story I will save for another day, though pray for me. A mild mentally handicapped young man and a mild mentally handicapped young lady....Lord, give me strength. So far, I have kept it a phone relationship. I also listen carefully from a distance.
The little kids are working hard in school. Sweetheart is still working on the ceiling in his "man room". Yes, that is what it is going to be...."A Man Room". My mother-in-love wanted me to post a pic of the ceiling so far. It is stained, but still needs polyurethane and the drywall panels need to be primed and painted white. It is really difficult to take a picture of a ceiling.....It looks beautiful in person. The pics do not do it justice and make it appear bowed, which it is not. All the edges of the wood are routed beautifully and the screws and joints are filled in and sanded smooth to look like one big piece of lattice. I have been pounding away on the church library project. I am really enjoying myself. I have completed over 250 books and am only 1/2 way done. I am finding lots of treasures in those books though. This was a fun one to find....It is a song book from the old Oral Roberts tent revivals....if only that book could talk!!! Oh, the wonders it would share. The tent revivals of the 1950's were unbelievable!! I have always wanted to experience one. There is a video by Carman called "1955" that gives you just a taste of what being at a tent revival might have been like. There is some humor in it too....quite entertaining. You can view it by clicking on the link. Wasn't that fun??!!
Time for me to get busy here at home. I have laundry, school, and grocery shopping to get done. We are having a big potluck after church on Sunday and I need to plan out what I will bring.
Have a blessed weekend!!!! Don't forget to ask yourself what you can do this day to bring glory to God.
"Ascribe to the LORD the glory due His name; Bring an offering, and come before Him; Worship the LORD in holy array."
1 Chronicles 16:29

Way to go Zachary! When the next one comes out you'll start talking funny,;D

It looks like Christmas with all those packages. I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with on the B.P. Challenge.

Have fun!

Hello, I am so glad to see the fullness of life. Wonderful treasures received. Toothless wonder is growing up fast! So is my boy.
I love old hymnals. I used to sit up long nights and read them and sing quietly.

Congrats to Zachary on the loss of his first tooth. I know how proud he is. Ashton is 5 and lost his first one last fall. He was so excited about it. Zach is looking cute with that gap. LOL The gifts from Cheryl are fabulous, but you can never go wrong when you get a gift of fabric.(grin) You will love Created to Be His Helpmeet. I find myself going back to it many times. Very good book. So glad you are enjoying the library job. I used to watch Oral Roberts on tv. I loved to hear him preach and listen to all his singers. He had a son, named Richard, who could really sing. Well, didn't intend to write a book. See, you can tell I am feeling better, cause I am getting long winded. LOL I am anxious to create something from Milah's panel. Sorry, but I had to smile when I read that Kyle has a friend. Good luck with that. (grin) Have a good day, my friend. Winona

Wow, things are hopping at your place today! Congratulations to Zach! Tell him I think he looks even more handsome :)
What a lovely gift from Cheryl, I know you will cherish it. The quilt store I was in last week was displaying an antique Grandmas Flower Garden, I loved it! I want those fabrics!!!! (Not coveting, honest...really...NO,...really!....LOL!)

Bren, I had to giggle when you mentioned Kyle and his being on the phone with a girl! My brother is also mildly handicapped, 40 years old, still living at home . . . and has wanted a girlfriend (and eventually wife) since we were teenagers. He has finally met a girl near his age with his same abilities. She lives in Montana, he in SC - which is a good thing, because they have "plans." It does take lots of patience and diplomacy, doesn't it?!

Those fabrics will be perfect for hexies and a great project for summer on the deck. Watch out, though, they really are addictive and you will have sore hands the first time.

You've been a busy bee! Oh, Bren, I still haven't gotten any of my quilt started. *sigh* I'm so sorry to be such a poor quilting partner. :o( I'm hoping to get my children to pull out some of my bins of fabric today and I can at least start choosing my fabrics. I have that crud that's going around, so it would be a good project while I'm sitting here feeling miserable.

I'm so happy that your daughter is crocheting! I love to crochet and it's something she will be able to do throughout her life. I love making things for my family and for my home.

Take care and I'll be in touch about my quilting - or lack thereof. *sigh* Have patience with me! (((HUGS)))

Love ya - Julie
