I wanted to share with you a new book being released sometime this fall. I am looking forward to it's release and plan to get it right away. You can read more about it on one of the authors blogs, Your Sacred Calling.
I received this book from Amazon the other day and was pleased to find it is in paperback. The last time I looked at it, it was in hard cover and was costly. Well, you can't search inside by clicking on the image here, but if you click HERE, you can!
I haven't had alot of time for reading, but plan to make some with the colder weather coming. What is better than curling up on the couch in front of a fire with a cup of coffee, a favorite quilt and a good book?
Well, hand sewing of any kind is just as good, now that I think about it. With the crisp air coming in, my plans for winter quilting projects start swirling. I tend to work on bigger projects in the winter and smaller ones in the summer. First on the list is to finish hand quilting this. After working on the double cross hatch, I finally got my callous going again.
It is queen size and I am excited to get it done. With it's completion comes a newly redecorated bedroom!! Should be incentive, huh?
I also want to finish the hand appliqued border on this quilt. It is huge also, and you can see the vine is 3/4 of the way finished. I will add flowers and leaves and baste it to go in the hoop around the same time the pink and brown comes out. What are you doing to prepare for the winter? (or the summer if you are experiencing spring right now)I noticed the tip top of my tree in the front yard is turning a deep shade of orange. The entire tree ends up dark red. I read the most powerful post today regarding the changing of the leaves. You can read it on Amanda's blog if you would like. It was beautifully and thoughtfully written.

Beautiful quilts! Do you ever enter them in quilt shows or competitions?
Oh, you have answered a prayer of mine. I was just thinking this evening that I need to do something with a Jacob's Ladder quilt top I have, and don't like, and seeing your quilt has given me inspiration, thank you! I am currently working on an UR quilt. I love how different they look based on fabric choices... yours is beautiful.
Your quilts are beautiful! I have been reading your blog for a while and decided I should post and let you know how much I have enjoyed it. Winter is a time for getting the books read and quilting time in.
Both of these quilt tops are beautiful.
I just can't imagine trying to hand quilt something so big!
It sounds as though you are all set for those long Winter evenings.
ciao, beautiful quilts and beautiful winter projects.
I love read books in winter......while out side it is cold I read in the warm of my house.
Thanks for Amanda blog's.
ciao ciao
Beautiful quilts Bren!!
There is nothing special I do to prepare for winter except maybe try to clean the house a little extra, room for room.
Thank you for thinking of me and leaving the link. I have seen this, but have not been by lately to see how it is coming along.
It is really exciting see what the Botkin girls are doing and I am very interested in seeing the finished movie.
Have a wonderful day!
Dani
Your quilts are amazingly beautiful. I am still determined to learn to quilt one of these days!!! Too many other good things on my plate right now, but someday.
I'm glad you were able to get a copy of Home Comforts. I love it! It's really such a comprehensive reference manual, I think all homemakers should have one!
I'm trying to clean my house to prepare for winter -- though, sewing wise I have a few projects I need to do. I have some handwork I'm preping for nights in front of the tv -- but I also need to do some other work on Christmas presents. That is, if I want them to be ready for Christmas I do!
your quilts are beautiful
Gorgeous quilts!
I can't wait to see those two finished! They are so pretty already but I know will be spectacular with your beautiful hand quilting on them.
I have that Home Comforts book. Maybe now that I've gotten a handle on things around here I should pull it out. It seemed too overwhelming at first, but adding one concept at a time seems doable!
I am always encouraged visiting your site, especially by your quilts...I am just amazed with how you home school and also find time to sew...My husband bought me a sewing machine a few years back...Never took classes and I kind of just dived into it by reading the instruction manual for the sewing machine...My first project was for my maitron of honor dress for my sister's wedding. It turned out ok...The second and last project I used my machine for was for curtains I sewed for my bathroom...Since then, I've only used my machine for hemming up my pants, which I don't even do correctly...Anyway, would you suggest that I take sewing classes to really learn how to sew? Who taught you? Your quilts are really an inspiration...My passion used to be for crocheting, but I developed carpal tunnel syndrome while pregnant with my first daughter. Though it only lasts while I'm pregnant and goes away a few months afterwards, my hands have never been the same and crocheting has become somewhat painful...Your quilts really inspire me to learn how to sew...Is quilting an expensive hobby and if so, how do you finance it?
Thanks for sharing those books. They seem very intersting, especially the one about housekeeping.
Your quilts are beautiful!
