Maundy Thursday

Kyle came home from work yesterday with this picture he made for me. He said it was for "your quilt blog". I was happy to post it!!
I have spent the last couple of days preparing for Easter. Lots of cleaning and shopping. My mom, Rachel and I went food shopping yesterday. Glad that is out of the way! Our menu will be our traditional Ham, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, broccoli casserole, mac and cheese, baked beans, cottage cheese, deviled eggs, spinach dip and Hawaiian bread, dinner rolls, grape salad, and 3-4 different desserts.
I have also worked on binding. I found this quilt that I made waaaay back in my earlier days of quilting. It was for my niece. I machine quilted it in the ditch and was not thrilled with the results. I packed it away for the last 14 years or so. I looked it over and determined it was not awful, so I began to continue the wrap around binding where I had left off.I will give it to my niece's daughter who will be 8 in June. I made this little girl a quilt a few years ago for Christmas....hand quilted friendship stars, and her mom "lost" it by February. It is only fair she gets her mother's quilt, right?
My binding skills have improved greatly since then and I no longer do wrap around bindings. Here is a ribbon of binding made for my sister's quilt.I attach it to the front with the machine and then onto the back by hand. I think, next to hand quilting, binding is my favorite part of the quilting process. My newest book arrived yesterday. Copperswife reviewed it a while back and I am looking forward to reading it.
My Zachary is an explosive child. 35% of babies born addicted to drugs (specifically crack cocaine) are explosive children. He has gotten a LOT better, but still it is sometimes a daily issue. He over reacts to the slightest thing. Yesterday, he was struggling with a math problem and had a complete meltdown in a matter of seconds. When sent to his room for a "time out" (he got disrespectful) he stomped up the stairs and yelled (at the top of his lungs) "I HATE MY FAMILY" This was new...he had never said anything like that before. I gasped and said "Zachary Brendan, what a hurtful thing to say!" He immediately calmed down and said,
"I did not mean that in a bad way."
Ok, so I need to read this book!

My older kids....Bud, Rachel and Kyle, started softball on Tuesday night. That means I get Grandbaby time! This girly is so much fun! Fresh diaper and jammies and an evening snack of rice cereal and a bottle and she is tickled beyond words! We never see her fuss. She has such a sweet disposition. TJ, like always, was not in the picture taking mood. I did catch him at the dining room table. He immediately said, "No pictures, Grandma." I assured him I was just checking my lens. Oops! Sorry TJ, I pushed that button by accident! Now I am off to do some more cleaning and binding. Today we go to our church, anytime between 7am and 7pm for communion. A personal time between you and God to partake of the Lord's Supper. Tomorrow night is "The Journey of the Cross" which my whole family (Sweetheart included) will attend. It is a half hour journey following different stations which take you from the Garden of Gethsemane to the Resurrection.
May you also reflect on the Amazing Love of our Saviour.
"But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed."
Isaiah 53:5

Bren,

Tell Kyle I like his art work. I think he is edging his way to becoming a quilter. Looks like a quilt block to me.;D

It's nice to peek in on your blog and see a happy family. Even when a child explodes in anger, it's lovingly dealt with.

Blessings!

Ok, I know I was being ornery, but I laughed right out loud when I read, "I did not mean that in a bad way"!!!!!

Only a child could think that you could say you hate your family in a GOOD way! LOL!!!!!

I know it wasn't funny when it happened, and I'm sure it must've hurt your heart to hear him say it.

But how sweet was it that he realized how hurtful it sounded and immediately tried to make it "not" hurt!

Kids are so great! You had a great reaction, too, to let him know that it didn't make you mad, but it hurt! He was able to grasp that concept right away, and try to right it. If you had blown up in anger, it might not have resolved itself so quickly.

Yay, mom!!!

Have fun with your busy weekend! You have so much planned - whew! I pray the services you all attend touche EVERY heart! : )

Aww. Sweet TJ :)

I agree on bindings, I really enjoy them. Good thing...I ALWAYS get passed all the twin quilts our church group makes for our foster kids camp~ just to do the bindings. I like to take them on car trips. I managed to get two done last fall on the way to a funeral and back- in one day! Our group leader was thrilled!

I may have to recommend that book to my friend fostering/hoping to adopt those two sweet babies. Let me know if you like it when you're done reading it.

Happy Passed Over"! :)
Love the sunflower quilt of course you knew I would love it! That is one blessed little niece.
I hope her Mom does not "lose" that one. Or if she does it gets lost over my way hahah
What a feast!
I am not sure if I am up to doing an Easter feast.
I did a leg of lamb last night.
That is nice how the whole of your family works together on it.
Love the image Kyle did. Can you see it in a table topper for his room? Thinking in the quilters box here.
TJ looks very deeply sad in his eyes. strained.
Be blessed!

Yes, Donetta, TJ looks pretty sad. He had a bad cold and was in no mood for my camera! He is doing better, but that cold has been a doozie!

Hi Bren,
I love the picture Kyle made you, and the first thing I thought of was a quilt block. Maybe he should take up quilting too. Binding is one of my favorite parts to quilting too. I also used to turn the back around to the front, but not any more. I do it just like you do. I'm sorry TJ isn't feeling well. All 4 of our grandkids have colds too, so I guess I will probably have a cold next week, cause you know I am going to do some serious hugging and kissing on them Sunday.LOL Little Emerson is a pretty princess as usual. Sounds like you have a feast planned. Carolyn is hosting our family gathering. She says she is making fried chicken and all the trimmings. I, too, think you handled the outburst with Zachary just right. Letting him know that his words hurt you, made him think. Enjoy your wonderful weekend. Take care, my friend. Winona

Your Easter menu is incredible!! Wow! LOTS of food!

Emerson is gorgeous. I can't believe how much she's grown.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on The Explosive Child as you read it. Email if you want to talk about it.

I smiled when I read about TJ and pictures. I have the same problem with my 10 year old grandson. I've started just snapping and not asking for poses. I did mention to them yesterday that they needed to keep their Easter outfit on until pictures were made. Maybe we can get someone after church to make one of all of us. If we make them before leaving church, maybe we won't have to worry about some one changing clothes too quickly.
Have a good one,
Oh and I like Kyle's picture.
