Sinnissippi Quilt Show

Today, Rachel and I went to the Sinnissippi Quilter's 2009 Quilt Show. There were well over 100 quilts...maybe more than 200, I am not certain, but there were MANY! I have been to the Sinnissippi Quilt Show every other year when it is put on, and I will tell you, this year was my favorite. There were many more hand quilted quilts. I think one year there were only 6 (if you did not count the antique quilts). This year I saw a couple dozen or more! I will share some of the pictures with you so go grab a cup of coffee or tea while all these pics upload, and get ready to be thoroughly inspired!!
Here is one that is hand appliqued and hand quilted.A closer look....It was a joint effort, this quilt, which made it more special! It was difficult to get a full picture of a lot of the quilts because of the way they were hung. Only one out of three quilts were in a position to be photographed straight on. Still I managed as best I could. I liked this one! Very traditional.
This was one of Rachel's favorites. Funny, she loved all the BRIGHT contemporary quilts and I loved all the muted traditional ones. This one was cool. I got a close up so you could see the pieces. This one had the funniest name...."Another Stupid Baby Quilt" This one was all 30's repros.Another of Rachel's favorites. This quilt won 1st place for machine quilting. Even I could see why!!!
The same lady did this circle motif. Very cool. I would like to hand quilt some of those circles!Speaking of quilting motifs, here is my favorite, Baptist Fans. Someday......I love the Carpenter's Wheel block!A Log Cabin variation....A bit blurry, but it is STUNNING. Hand appliqued and hand quilted!!!Also a bit blurry, but worth the squint!!!Detail of a ship.....(I plan a ship in the Masterpiece quilt)Detail of the border.....I took a close up of this one because I want to make it myself! It is all half square triangles. I loved this quilt!A couple of hexagon quilts...more of my favorites!Another one I really liked....THIS quilt I know personally! I helped Coleen baste it 16 years ago. She got it done just in time for this show!!! It won 2nd place in the bed quilt/pieced/hand quilted category! Way to go Coleen!!!!The next one is just wonderful....the picture does not do it justice. It is really beautiful! Hand applique and hand quilted. This one was another of Rachel's choices. Mine, not so much. It is called, "Dancing With My Mother" I don't get it. It is very interesting, I will say that much and the maker is absolutely talented!Back to some traditional pieces....Isn't that gorgeous??!! Here is a close up....hand applique, hand quilted! Now look at this!!! I could not get a picture without someone in it because there was ALWAYS someone looking at it. We all said the SAME thing...."Oh My Gosh!" and that was the actual name of the quilt!!!! The small squares are 1/4 inch finished!!! YES ONE QUARTER INCH! It is hand pieced and machine quilted. It took 400 different fabrics and YEARS of work. Stunning. I was a bit disappointed that it was not hand quilted after all that hand work, but I am sure the seam allowances would have been horrible! Here is a cute wall hanging....This one is called "Coffee With Cream". I wanted to make this one a couple of years ago. I think Coleen bought the book back then. Here is an antique quilt from the late 1800's. It is done in red work cross stitching. It was really beautiful!!More detail.....Look at the hand quilting.....Breathtaking!!!! Here is another cross stitch quilt, though it was created recently. All hand quilted! Some detail....the hand quilted cross hatching is beautiful. If I remember right, this one won 1st place over all for hand quilting. It is spectacular, though my picture was awful! You can imagine how many hand quilting stitches are in this quilt!Rachel's mouth hit the floor when she spotted this Bargello quilt. The picture is not at all blurry....this is how it looked. Is that amazing, or what??I think this will win viewers choice! Again....Some detail.....This one was cute. All machine appliqued and machine quilted. Each lady had a different embellishment on her hat and each background had a different quilting design. And finally some rag flowers. I really thought this was cute! Are you totally inspired?? I sure am. It was such fun to view the work of such talented quilters! Hope you enjoyed it to!

Is this why you asked about Friday or Saturday??

Even if I could have used a car, I was already busy this weekend anyway, but WOW, looks like you went to a winner of a quilt show!

I know why you like hand quilted, hand pieced. I'm the same. The first quilt amazes me, especially where the vase curves in and out. I know how difficult that applique is. I know some love doing applique and maybe if I was good at it, I would too but I doing it unless I just iron it on and stitch around the raw edge on the machine.
The one called "Dancing With My Mother", I think the circle in the center represents Earth and all of creation is arround her.
the viewer's choice: I've seen these type at other shows, they're like paintings. Wow!
I like the cross stitch ones.
Thanks for sharing these and your comments. I feel like I was there, almost. Makes me want to get with my quilting.
Do you buy your batting locally or order it online?

This was a real nice show I went on Saturday with my granddaughter. It was her first time to go to a quilt show. After hitting all of the vendors she was worn out.I let her buy some fat quarters to make cloth bags for her self.

They're absolutely gorgeous! I'm like you and like the muted, more traditional ones, but they're all beautiful.

Awesome! Ashleigh and I went to our local quilt show weekend before last. I got out of the house without a camera. I had a splitting headache but soon forgot it when I started admiring the quilts. I tend to lean toward the muted traditional quilts also and Asleigh like Rachel loved the bright contemporary quilts. Ashleigh is so artistic I hope she finds time to follow through on some of her quilting plans. Thanks for sharing. Many blessings, Karen

Thanks for the quilt show! I think I am a traditional gal at heart too! I enjoy seeing the bright modern style quilts, but the traditional ones are what I truly enjoy.
