I have a deadline. A BIG ONE!!! In 100 days I need to have this completely done PLUS several table toppers completed! So why am I not pounding away on the Basket Case??? Over the last year, I have worked on several quilts. Most were baby quilts, one was a lap quilt. All were hand quilted (except the one done as a joint effort with Coleen). First was the hand applique, hand quilted, SBS for Emerson...... I loved making this quilt. Then the Star Sampler for my sister....all colors I love, so it was not a stretch for me.Then I jumped right on the Peter Rabbit challenge at Easter time. LOTS of pink and lavender, yellows, and baby blues....All the while I was still working on the pink and brown quilt....the never ending albatross that will one day be my best work. Then the baby quilt with all those leftover pastels....by now I am gagging. And of course the Basket Case is all pastels.....
I feel like I have overdosed on cotton candy this year! So why am I not pounding away on the baskets???? Why am I making trees????
Trees that do not have a deadline, or a hint of cotton gag-me pink in them???......
Trees that take f-o-r-e-v-e-r to make.......
Why do I want to spend my hours making 12 more trees when I have a deadline to meet??? I have no answer. I do know I have to be stopped!!! I need to put down my rotary cutter and step away from the trees!

I plan to make a list of quilting goals and do a challenge with my friend Sue. She is a great one to keep me accountable. She has her list done through Dec 2010....not sure if I will go that far. With all I have going, maybe I will need to!! I do know the trees will be on that list!
Tomorrow school starts.
The kids are excited to start a new year. It will be a fun day....the 4 of them will be here and we will go over schedules and what will be required of each child. Anya and Alphia will only be here part time and will be doing school at home part time. We will do no actual school work except Bible, where we will learn the author of the book of Romans, the reason it was written and some background to help us understand it better. After that we will be taking a trip to the Borders Bookstore where each child will chose a book to read at home. They are required to spend 20 minutes or more each day reading outside of school. Charlotte will do much more, but the other kids I am not sure of.

Good luck with the new school year. I so admire you for home-schooling. Your quilts are so pretty and I also admire your handquilting.
Wow Bren, you certainly have been busy with your lovely quilts. But tomorrow starts a new day :-) I love your promise sheet. It will be fun, it will be good, it will be profitable. 280 days of learning (but we all know that learning goes on 365). Have a great year!
Ooooooo, maybe you could bribe yourself. Work an hour or two on Basket Case and then work on a tree. What do I know, huh? The wanna be quilter! ;-) I do know that bribing myself often helps me get past a rough spot on a project, though.
Deadlines can be dangerous. You can get it done. Famous last words for me also. You are progressing well. Chris
As soon as you finish that basket quilt, you send it here to me... It will look very pretty with my new headboard and you don't have to look at no "stinkin pink" any more...
Tell the kids to have a great first day of school tomorrow....
Bren, I hope your first day of school is lots of fun. Sounds like you have things planned out for a productive year. When I read about everyone getting ready to start homeschooling after the summer break, I sometimes miss that. Then I think, are you crazy? LOL I loved homeschooling our kids, but I am so glad to have it behind me.(grin) You made some beautiful quilts in the past year. I am with you. I love the tree blocks. Have a great day tomorrow. Winona
Pink is for healing :) must just be that year for you
I do so love those trees ...
All I can say is that you are AMAZING, Bren! I am always SO impressed by the amount of quilting you do!
Lots of nice eye candy this morning :0) It's good to take a break from the "have to get it done" stuff and just create for yourself. You will get the other stuff done, I have confidence in you, and if you don't, do as I do, gift it and then take it back to finish LOL.

We start homeschooling today, too. Even Ruthie will have a bit of "kool" to do :)
Those trees are great, they are worth the effort!
Beautiful quilts!!! WOW! I admit that seeing pictures of what others are able to do gives me a desire to give it a try....quilting and knitting I've seen a bunch lately...ooh I don't know. :)
I hope today is a wonderful first day for you!
Blessings, Alex
PS I'd gag if I had to deal with so much pink too! LOL I LOVE the star sampler....beautiful colors!!
This is the pink year :)
Happy first day of school. I know everyone is anxious to get into the routine. The first day sounds wonderful. I know what you mean about some students reading more than required and others struggling to do what is asked of them.
We have had that challenge with Wonder Boy but when we find what interests him, there's no problem. He loves collecting facts, storm stories is one of his favorite shows. His latest book is about mysterious places.
You are an inspiration to me. I am amazed at all you accomplish.

I just love your title - Cotton Gag-Me Pink! It made me laugh. May you have a blessed school year!
Oh Bren..you crack me up! I guess i should encourage you to step away from the trees...but i'm really intrigued...i love those trees...but i guess i should say back to the "gag me pink" (LOL)
Enjoy the new school year...i'm working on adjusting to the empty nest..sigh...
Your work is so gorgeous.
I loved the homeschool rules. I thought they were intended for the kiddies at first! I may need to print a copy of that as a reminder to myself.
You have been very busy of late and you really do have a lot to show for it! Your handquilting is gorgeous and that basket quilt is stunning.
What a wonderful quilt display. You have been very busy!
I love the trees and I love pink too :)
