A Sweet Sight

It was a gorgeous day today and Charlotte decided to have a sewing day. She sat out on the deck hand piecing her dolly quilt when a friend came down to play. Since she was unwilling to put her sewing down to play, Charlotte put her friend to work placing pins in the pin cushion. This did not look like alot of fun and it was Zach's job anyway, so I asked Charlotte's friend if she would like to sew too. She lit up and we headed to my sewing room. She picked 2 orphan blocks and I cut 2 alternate blocks and away she went. She did very well. She wants to make a pillow and I
promised her she could come back tomorrow and work on it some more. It will be a nice surprise for her mom. (I did get permission from her mom to put her picture here.) The sight of these 2 little girls, ages 10 & 11, sitting on the deck sewing patchwork just warmed my heart. This is what it is all about. Passing on a love for needlework that will enrich their lives and possibly the lives of their children and grandchildren. I am as excited about Charlotte's next project as she is. It is a little pillow in stamped cross stitch. I think I will get some redwork kitchen towels and join her on the deck when she is ready. I will post a pic of both girls with their finished projects very soon.

What a wonderful way to spend a hot summer afternoon. It's so good that you are passing this love on to the next generation.

You are truely blessed to have a daughter that shows an interest in stitching. What a lovely photo of the two of them.

That's just beautiful. And I love that you took your daughter's friend in to get her started on a project too Bren.

Love the photo of you in your profile - is that your grandson as a babe? Beautiful :)

I would so love my daughter to have an interest in sewing but it is not to be ! How lovely to see those 2 girls concentrating so hard ! I too look forward to seeing their completed projects.

What a sweet picture! I love that the girls are so enthusiastic about their sewing.
I hope this passion for needlework will stay with them always and that they, in turn, will pass down the joy of working with needle and thread.

Very good of you to 'tag' another couple of would-be quilters. They may not sew for the next 20yrs, but they won't forget.
