Tackle It Tuesday

Today's tackle will be in preparation for Thanksgiving next week. It is fast approaching and I have lots to do. My entire family will be here for an early dinner. I timed it once. It takes me most of 2 days to cook. This year it will be more because I am doing more scratch cooking, including the rolls. Everyone takes about 10 minutes to fill their plates. I have 2 tables going. By the time everyone picks up their fork, until they push their plate away is 20 minutes. What is the payoff? The satisfied looks on everyone's face and the feeling of thanksgiving that everyone is here. One year, my Uncle Bob (Aunt Robin's husband) was here and the next he was not. He was taken in a car accident on his 51st birthday. Oh, how worth the many days work Thanksgiving is to me!

So today I have 2 tackles. One is to finish the table topper and matching napkins. They are well under way and just need some of my attention! I need to sandwich, machine quilt (in the ditch) and bind the topper. The napkins will be fast. I made one like I had planned and did not like it. The fabric was not right as the back looked...well like a back. Homespun's are a perfect fabric to do napkins. Calico's look unfinished. So, I sewed right sides together and finished the edge with a little finishing seam. I will only have 10 of the 20 napkins I wanted, but I have plenty of fall colored cloth napkins that will intersperse with these nicely. I will not freak out over it like I would have in the past. "Hold your plans loosely!" A, now, famous quote by Copper's Wife that I say out loud often!!
My next tackle, in preparation for Thanksgiving, is one that I do bi-annually. Just before Thanksgiving and again at Easter. I take everything out of the China cabinet, hand wash all the china and crystal and then clean the inside of the cabinet. The kids will dust the chair backs and legs, along with the table legs. I put a deep purple table cloth on this table and will add orange accents. Deep purple and orange are very striking and beautiful together. I never would have guessed that until my son and daughter in law picked those colors for their wedding. After these jobs are done, I can focus on the menu and the cooking!

I love your china cabinet, it is beautiful. I also have to cook Thanksgiving, but we are having it at my parents, so I don't have to clean...

I would never have thought to put orange and purple together. Will you remember to take a picture? I'd love to see it,

I do agree with you about calico's and homespun's for napkins! And it sure does stink too because I love all the Thanksgiving prints that are available! :)
