The Comforts of Home

The comfort of home encompasses all the senses. Sight, sound, touch, taste, smells. All of that is going on here to day. Things look comfortable and tidy, creating a calming feeling at first sight. Comfort sounds, like children talking, washer and dryer running, bread machine spinning, music playing are all available to the ears. The touch of paper and pencil are flowing as math tests are being taken. Zachary brought his to me and said "Hit me with an A+, Baby." I giggled, but also explained that you should probably not call your mother "baby". He did get an A+. The touch of an apron tied around your waist can create a comfortable feeling of home too. And for me, the feel of warm soapy water warms the heart as well as the hands.

The taste of snacks brought with it a lesson in reading labels. Coffee is the only thing I myself have tasted today, but oh, does it taste good!

Smells....one of the most wonderful things you can have to make a home comfortable. I love a home that smells of cinnamon and fresh baked bread. Soon my oven will be piping the scent of bread all around my home, but for now the smell of the wonderful tasting coffee and tonight's simmering homemade pasta sauce is what tickles my nose. What comforts does your home speak today?

Right now, my house is pretty quiet. The 2yo is taking a nap, and the other boys are quietly playing a video game. The sun is shining. I can hear my clock ticking, one of my favorite sounds. I don't smell much, which is nice since the carpet was still stinky this morning from where the 2yo threw up on it a couple of days ago. I've been hitting it with febreeze all day.

Hey, I mentioned on your last post that I would find this article that you should read. I found it. You have got to read this! It is great! http://www.achristianhome.org/Men/TheStrangerTV.htm
If you haven't read it already that is.

An inspiring post, I put bread in the machine this morning before I left. DH will awake to fresh bread and coffee this morning on his day off.

That was so comforting, I felt welcomed in your home even from far away. I can smell that bread and feel the warmth. What a blessing.
