Weekend Happenings

I hope everyone is having a good weekend. Ours has been busy, but fun. Saturday we spent almost the entire day outside. The kids worked on their cartwheels and somersaults.... We got new sand for the sandbox and they spent HOURS in it. Toward late afternoon, my kids wanted to head out front to play with the neighborhood children, so TJ was left to play by himself. Rachel and I sat on the deck watching him.Kyle came out and TJ said "Kunkle Kyle, PLEEEEASE play with me." Kyle could not resist that!!!He had TJ laughing like I never heard before!! That Kunkle Kyle!!! He sure is a good uncle.

Remember when I said just a couple of posts ago that Rachel was not showing??? I was wrong! She has been hiding it!I had to take that pic to prove she was showing cause, in her words, she can not see "over the top"! Soon, Rachel, soon! Isn't she glowing??? Such a beautiful young woman. Inside and Out.

Today is just as glorious outside and the kids have been out all day. Charlotte has been playing with a friend. I took this pic from the second story window through a screen. It is so much fun to watch little girls play. They are so different from little boys. Both have such wonderful imaginations, yet boys tend to create scenarios in play that could not really happen, such as Zach playing "galaxy wars", while Charlotte and her friends imaginative play is more down to earth...everyday life type stuff. Galaxy wars are fun to watch, but goodness those girls are like a sponge and use everything they see and hear in their play.
Sweetheart and I have been tackling some big jobs today. He is patching a hole and re-staining woodwork, and I am de-cluttering and organizing. We are both working in the kid's rooms. Our 2 youngest children are very hard on things. Yeesh. Both have made holes in the walls....why? Who knows. Just because. We finally put panelling part way up the wall in Zach's room because he kept making a hole....just big enough to fit a matchbox car. Whoever tears down that wall in years to come, will find DOZENS of matchbox cars in mint condition!!! I started by de-cluttering Zach's room. I emptied every drawer, bin, and even the closet and threw out anything that was broken, cheap and on the verge of broken, or unnecessary. Of course he was outside the whole time. I wonder if he will miss this guy....I had never seen him before and have no idea where he came from. He does not live here anymore.I actually got some sewing time in....no not the fun kind. Several of the cloth "bins" that hold Zach's toys needed repair.
Hours later, and several breaks, it was done.Other than his leap pad and Game Boy, the only toys he has are in these bins. There are a couple of empty ones too. He will find this much more manageable.

Charlotte's room got a good cleaning and re-arranging. She had little clutter. Her comforter was in terrible condition so I put a prized bedspread on her bed until I can get her a new one. It is a white, peach and green chenille bedspread, circa 1930. I am nervous about putting it on her bed, but have told myself it is ok....no matter what happens to it. She needed to feel special and she knows how special the bedspread is. If she destroys it, I will have the attitude that she is more important than the bedspread. I am talking to myself here, not that I don't believe it, but I get sentimental about "stuff". Did you notice the white spot on Charlotte's wall? The picture was taken after the hole was patched, but before Sweetheart had painted it. It is all done now and looks like it never happened! A very productive, yet enjoyable weekend. Tomorrow starts "The Simple Woman's Daybook." It will be every Monday. Visit "The Simple Woman's" blog to join in...it should be fun!

That was nice that you put that pretty bedspread on your daughter's bed. I'm sure she feels very special and will take good care of it.

Aren't those vintage spread deee-lish? I have a couple of candlewick spreads that I just adore. Neither in any sort of useable condition, but I cannot part with them *s*

Looks like you had a busy but fun day. I spent the afternoon outside sanding down drawers to a desk and ended up quite sunburnt. That's how hot it got here.

I keep seeing all these blogs of kids playing outside. It's still cold and snowy around her but this weekend is supposed to be really nice. Maybe then I'll have pictures of kids playing outside to share.
